Couples and Relationships
Why Do We Keep Having the Same Argument?
You may start by talking about one small thing and end up in a conversation that feels very familiar. The details change, but the distance afterward does not. A repeated argument does not tell you everything about your relationship. It can be a reason to look beyond the subject of the disagreement.

The Topic and the Meaning Can Differ
You might be discussing chores while also wanting your effort to be noticed. Your partner might be talking about plans while wanting more say in a decision. Neither meaning has to cancel out the practical issue. There can be room to discuss the immediate concern alongside what makes it feel important to each of you.
Pay Attention to the Pattern
A conversation may become faster, quieter, or more defensive as it continues. One person might keep asking for a response while the other pulls back. Describing that sequence is different from assigning one person all the blame. You can talk about what happens between you without deciding that it defines who either of you is.
A Pause Is Not the Whole Conversation
When you want to slow a disagreement down, say what you need rather than assuming silence will explain it. A pause alone does not address the original concern. It can matter to talk about how you will return to the subject, while recognizing that neither person owes an immediate answer to every difficult question.
Bring the Cycle Into Therapy
You can bring a familiar disagreement to couples therapy without rehearsing every detail. Jazmine’s couples work includes understanding recurring conflict and attachment, with room for both perspectives. The purpose is not to promise that arguments disappear. You can explore what happens beneath them and the ways you reach for understanding when connection feels difficult.
If You Want to Talk
