Identity Development

Identity can be shaped by culture, relationships, community, expectations, and lived experience. Therapy offers room to explore those layers without asking you to simplify who you are.

What This Can Feel Like

  • You are carrying feelings about who you are that are hard to name.
  • You feel disconnected from yourself while trying to keep going.
  • You pretend you are fine when questions about identity need room.
  • A change in your life brings new questions about who you want to be.

How We Work With It

Who you were belongs in the conversation about who you are.

Jazmine’s mission includes spaces where people do not have to choose between who they were and who they are. Identity work can include young adults exploring identity and sexuality, and BIPOC women considering how culture and relationships shape their sense of self. The conversation makes room for growing into who you want to be based on who you are and what you have experienced. You do not need a finished answer about your identity to bring those questions into therapy.

Her collaborative, strengths-based work pays attention to what you already know about yourself as well as what you are still exploring. A systemic and decolonizing approach considers family, community, relationships, and environment. Her mission’s emphasis on collective healing recognizes that understanding yourself does not happen apart from others. Care is LGBTQIA+-affirming. Your experiences and identities belong in the conversation, including the expectations that can make it hard to speak about what matters to you.

What Can Shift

  • Explore identity and sexuality without needing to have every answer.
  • Talk about how culture, relationships, and expectations shape your sense of self.
  • Make room for who you were and who you are, without having to choose between them.
